The other night while i was bathing 4yo his grandpa came in, which is when 4yo told me his grandfather shat himself and i had to maintain a deathgrip on the party line of Sometimes Accidents Happen And That’s Okay! Talking About Poop And Pee Is Okay! while thinking YOU CANT JUST SAY THAT CHILD and his grandpa just like. Blazed past in a way I could not discern whether it was poor hearing or embarrassed refusal to acknowledge

#childcare is just being put in Situations #it’s really important to me that kids not have shame about accidents #bc it’s hard enough for neurotypical able-bodied kids #but if you add in any kind of disability…#and either way you’re learning a whole ass skill and it’s hard and you’re gonna make mistakes!#you shouldn’t feel any worse about shitting your pants than about spilling soup or putting your shoes on the wrong feet #i had significant problems with accidents as a kid. i just couldn’t switch tasks to deal with needing to pee.#i refused to wear jeans for YEARS bc they took too long to take off #and like. god knows it wasn’t the only reason i was bullied.#but starting to hit puberty while still pissing yourself aint a cute look #so yeah. i don’t want that for kids. and i also firmly believe the lower the stakes are the easier it is to gain these skills.#it’s also important to destigmatise it in adults!#like at least a third of the people i know have an I Shit My Pants story. it will probably happen to all of us at some point #and if we live long enough will absolutely happen #but also WE DONT OUT OTHER PEOPLES I SHIT MY PANTS STORIES #im only outing grandpa bc of the level of anonymity #bramble bramble
